US: 25 million smart meters now installed

As of this month there are now 25 million electric smart meters installed in the U.S. That’s about one-sixth of 144 million electricity meters in this country, according to the Energy Information Administration.

And many more are coming. Firm commitments for smart meter deployments — approved by public utility commissions or utility boards of directors — total an additional 21 million meters by 2019, with tens of millions more likely to be approved in that timeframe.
