France to decide on smart meter rollout

By the end of summer 2011, the government of France will decide by whether to proceed with its planned smart meter rollout, Bloomberg reports. This project would include 35 million homes and small businesses and is estimated to cost €4 billion (about $6 billion USD at today’s exchange rate). That works out to $171 USD per meter.
