Making Europe’s smart grid a reality

Last week the European Commission released a key policy paper: Smart Grids: from innovation to deployment. According to the paper, currently “there is a considerable gap between current and optimal investment in Europe.”

Now the EU hopes to accelerate smart grid deployment by setting targets and other specific actions.

European Commission Policy Officer Manuel Sanchez was a keynote speaker at the launch of the Smart Energy Demand Coalition in Brussels earlier this month.

He discussed this paper, which makes a strong case for smart grid and smart meter investments…
