Standards board takes lead in making home area networks (HAN) play nice

Smart meters rely on technical standards to work well with other devices and systems. When those standards aren’t fully settled, utilities may hesitate to deploy the full capabilities of smart meters. This, in turn, delays full benefits to consumers, utilities, and the power grid.

The radios built into smart meters face such a dilemma. But this week a key standards board has taken the lead to solve this problem quickly…
