CenterPoint smart meter rollout yields faster, bigger savings than expected

There have been some complaints about smart meter installations, concentrated in Northern California and Maine. But in reality, most smart meter rollouts are proceeding successfully — and already yielding consumer benefits.

CenterPoint Energy in Houston, Texas is a great example. Last week, besides announcing the installation of its one-millionth smart meter, CNP also announced that it will charge customers for the cost of this rollout only for four years, instead of the original ten years…
