Senator Cantwell Predicts Energy Bill Passage

In the midst of my old stomping grounds at Stanford University Friday afternoon I met one of the unsung heroes of smart meters and the Smart Grid: Senator Maria Cantwell of Washington State.

Cantwell sponsored the Smart Grid provisions of the 2007 Energy Independence and Security Act (a couple of which I helped write), which paved the way for the $4.5 billion in smart grid grants — included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

The subject of our discussion was the potential for an energy bill this year, given the Obama Administration’s strong interest in a bill and the public’s strong interest.
